Artist Statement
Through hand-built ceramic forms with layered surfaces and metal components, Isys Hennigar's work considers myth and narrative surrounding the natural world and dualities of the body. The stories embedded in her work center around themes of transformation, health and sickness, desire, and attempts to predict or control the unknowable. Through lifelike forms and meticulous adornment, the work explores the metaphorical connection between bodies and vessels and explores interactions - real and speculative between animals, plants, objects, and people.
